Record Balance

A quick one this, not much to talk about but having sold everything I have the largest wallet balance I've ever had, at over 560Bn, which is neat.

I'm hoping not to keep it for long though. The current NES sale for Omega ends on 20th September, with a Major Update coming out on the 22nd. Often with these major updates there's a free week given out to encourage people back to give it a try, which usually means a drop in the price of pretty much everything. If that happens I'll be able to buy PLEX up for as cheaply as possible to then wait for the next FOMO sale. Fingers crossed.

Beginning Null Seeding

I've been slowly dipping my toe into various things in null recently. By which I mean familiarising myself with the geography near to UALX-3 and doing a little bit of ratting and more recently, mining.

I don't, if I'm completely honest, understand the nuances with mining these days. With wastage being a concern and a source of drama within null groups and new null sec ores etc. I decided to keep it simple by buying a couple of battle procurers and taking them out in a nearby Industry park.

The idea behind the location being that there are tatara's on hand for reprocessing, asteroid anomolies of various descriptions to mine, an ice field, and a bunch of raitarus to build things from the minerals.

I was pleasantly surprised to find the rats that jump into those anoms seem quite small and easily handled by my barges, so I'll probably push the limits here as I build up.

Another thing I was looking at was the margins between staging and Jita. I found them to be healthy, and the alliance hauling services to be nice and cheap, so I've bought about 850mil of a few items and set up a contract for them to be hauled to staging. I will likely look at industry in null at some point but that might involve importing some materials, whereas importing the items to sell for a profit looks to be a simple way to open a new profit avenue.

Separately, I've had a sell order to Skill Extractors up for a very, very long time that I refresh periodically. It was for 570mil sell, by far the highest in Jita, from an attempt to flip them a very long time ago. This is purely dead ISK, so I've reduced it to a more sensible 470mil in an attempt to unlock that ISK and then put more into PLEX when the Omega sale ends. I have sold my PLEX stockpile for a minimum of 4.95Mil each, so I'll wait for the price to drop back to the 4.65-4.6 region and then buy them all up again. At that price from my initial 99k PLEX I should end up with 101k, so a small but notable profit. With the extra 100Bn from the extractors I should be looking at around 120k PLEX, which is a lot to take into the next FOMO sale.

Secret donations

So this week FC put out a security update:

https://www.eveonline.com/news/view/eve-online-security-update-8-september-2026

I had already heard rumblings of this on the Oz discord but it was good to et some clarity from FC as to what was happening.

Essentially, someone modified their client and used 4 characters to spam over 1 million characters with 0 ISK donations. Something about the response to that deposit call returned the wallet balance of the wallet being donated to. This didn't return other wallet balances other than corp master wallet and personal wallets. So no PLEX balances or anything.

I don't know if donating to a character would also get their corp wallet balance, I would hope not.

I've seen some speculation that the list of users was scraped from zKillboard, but I'm not convinced as my market characters have been affected. I've not done a thorough inventory but all the characters I checked were affected. My industry corp wallet however does not show a donation so might be unaffected.

There is a limit to what someone can do with this information, unless they can map characters to accounts somehow and therefor have targets to hack, or alternatively use the knowledge of who has large wallets to target them for social engineering or phishing. So as the article says you should enable 2FA on your accounts.

Fortunately, none of my characters have more than a few billion in their wallets, so I don't look much like a target which is nice. If they could see PLEX balances that would be a different matter.

Here's hoping this is as far as it goes, but be very careful if you receive suspicious EVEMails or emails from "FC" over the next couple of months!

A Capital sized investment

For a while I've thought and talked about wanting to build bigger ships, particularly Freighters and Jump Freighters. I t was a factor in my move to send a couple of characters to low sec for industry.

After running the numbers through EVEGuru to check for profitability and coming out in the 20-25% margin range across the board (with perfect skills) I decided to bite the bullet and buy the blueprints needed to build a Charon. Which cost a little bit of ISK...

Terrible picture, but the red line at the top is my net worth, the dark blue is ISK in wallets and the green is asset value. My net worth dropped by 1.1Bn, ISK on hand down 11.7Bn, and asset value up 13Bn!!! (I did sell some stuff there to explain the discrepancy, the light blue line is sell orders).

So why did my net worth drop? Surely it goes from the ISK in my wallet to the NPC value of the blueprints which is what I paid? Well, yes, but also...

That's 640mil to research a Charon blueprint to 8ME. Then there are a lot of component blueprints to also research as well!

So it'll be a while before I actually produce my first freighter, and even longer before this venture turns a profit but I'm pleased to be along the way to achieving a goal for myself, which is what EVE is all about really.

August Update - Industry

A disappointing/transitionary month this one, a transition that's only just starting really. The graph:

My current net worth is 64.1Bn ISK, a decrease of 1.1Bn ISK.

Another month, more losses. This is easier to explain. I've been aggressively chasing prices down as Logic Circuit prices have fallen in order to liquidate stock and transition to new items and ventures. I've also been having a slightly more holistic look at my setup, and while I do that I've not used most of my characters. Most of the time just 3 have been building anything.

I know I want to keep building mobile depots, I can churn those out for eternity with 1 character and a 10% profit margin basically to the end of time, though prices here have fallen recently as well. Input materials across the board seem down which makes chasing profit much harder.

I also know I want 1 character to build ad hoc things that EVEGuru says are profitable. These tend to be mostly odd t1 rigs, where I can produce 10 or 20 from a single production line for a day and make a decent profit, but not commit fully to.

When prices level out I want 1 character to continue with medium rigs as well, as these have a consistently good demand and have been a nice earner for me.

Beyond that I'm less certain about what I want to do. I would like to transition my low sec setup to looking at building freighters, and to that end I have started picking up capital parts blueprints and researching them in lowsec. This activity will have a lot of lead time (and start up cost) but I think should therefore lead to some good margins.

With my other characters I am looking at other items with better, more consistent margins. I have never lost money making large EMP Smartbomb II for instance, so I'm making those a regular part of my rotation.

I'm also considering industrial cores. I have made them here and there in the past, and the margin is consistent along with demand, so I'd need to be careful about how many i produce, but they have a long lead time and take a lot of bulky tritanium to build. Which isn't the end of the world, but I am very strongly considering buying a freighter to accommodate that.

A lot more work to do here, seems the puzzle is going to take some real concentration to figure out, which I just haven't given it this last year.

August Update - Trading

I was away for some of this month, and working silly hours for other parts, so an underwhelming month. The raw numbers:

And the full breakdown:

My current net worth is 1.263Tn ISK, and increase of 16Bn ISK, or 516 mil ISK/day.

Hardly impressive, but as I say, I've hardly played for a lot of the month. To be honest with my trading I've just been going through the motions, doing my same old same old, watching the numbers tick slowly up, while focussing on other things.

One thing I have been doing is building up PLEX stockpiles using profits. Up to 99k now, 1000 more and I'll be at the 100k I was hoping for to take into the next FOMO sale.

I have been trying a little bit to get started in null on my main, which is actually a slightly more involved process than I remember. A lot about null life is getting to know the geography, what systems are where, where the Ansiblexes are, where the industry parks are, etc. etc. etc.

I fell into the simplest thing of death cloning, buying a ratting Gila and going not far from staging and ratting enough to pay the Gila off by doing Forsaken Hubs, but I haven't achieved much more than that. More on what I'm doing to get settled in another post but I'm trying to keep my game time focussed on that, or else I'll never really get the most out of the experience and I might as well stay in high sec.

I've also noticed, and I don't know if others are the same, but when there is a lot of stress going on in my real life, for whatever reason, I struggle to motivate myself to do things I find fun, such as play EVE. So you will always see a bit of a drop off in terms of activity and progress when I have other things on my mind. This is probably a natural response to stress, but I've noticed it more consciously recently where I finally finished work, and had a bit of time to log in, and wanted to, but just...couldn't bring myself to, and went to bed instead.

Fingers crossed the worst of the work stress is behind me so I can get the lay of the land. I half remember the lay of the land in Catch from over a decade ago, but Tenerifis is a completely different animal that I'm still getting used to.

A Brave new adventure

I've talked for a little while about wanting to get back into the null sec game, back to flying ships in space. Since the collapse of Pandemic Horde I've not had the opportunity, and even before that I didn't really take the opportunity that much. I've also found that often I'll log in, do my trade stuff, do some industry, then sit there not knowing what to do and log off.

Mixing things up should hopefully give me more motivation to try different things, and reasons to stay logged in once I've done my usual routine. There are a few different options when it comes to null blocs, but in the end there was one choice that made the most sense for me:

10 and a half years after I left, I am back in Brave Newbies! No longer such a newbie, even to null. But Brave has a great mix of being welcoming, expecting very little of its pilots other than having fun, and offers a lot of different opportunities.

They're not as big as say Goonswarm, but being part of the Imperium gives access to a lot of space, and Allies should anyone mount a big invasion. Being an alliance of around 3000 rather than 12000 means people are quite likely to come to their space looking for a fight which is good too.

The experience of joining was quite different from last time though. The first time I joined I simply applied in game and when the hard working recruitment team got to my app I was accepted. This time though, I had to fill in a form explaining why I wanted to join, my experience in the game etc. I had to add all of my characters (all 21 of them) to an external auth service, then wait around 4 days for someone to review my application. I then had to answer some questions about my relation to some characters I had in high personal standings (my sister and IRL friends from our high sec mining corp days of 15 years ago!) and then a few days later I was accepted. After that I had to put in requests for various services, set up mumble, slack etc etc.

It honestly reminded me of this old meme:

I gather this is how a lot of the big blocs are, guess I was lucky in my previous adventures!

But most importantly, I'm in. Even though I have a few capitals and some subcaps knocking around in low sec somewhere I decided to do a "fresh start" for this adventure. I left all my assets behind, barring the 2.1Bn in my wallet and my alt, and deathcloned to UALX-3 in tenerifis. Just next door to my original home in Catch. Maybe I should go visit GE- for old times sake...

While I waited for all my IT setup to be completed so I could join fleet comms I bought myself a ratting Gila, and jumped out into space to go do some anoms:

Space is scary.

Honestly, I'm quite excited to jump into this and see if a change is as good as a rest. And to try out some null industry again...but I'll fly in space for a bit first, promise.

June Update - Industry

A slightly less positive outlook for this side of the business:

My current net worth is 67.1Bn ISK, and increase of 3.9Bn ISK or 130mil/day.

A slight improvement on last month, but at a cost of 1.015Bn ISK per month in Omega each for 3 accounts, I'm still barely covering the Omega costs for the industry. A large part of this has come down to demotivation. As you can see the month started strong, really strong, then fell back as salvage prices dropped and then my updates stopped.

Producing a small basket of items gives me good control of my inputs but it does mean that if the market shifts - and it frequently does - I'm completely at its mercy. I need to have a wholesale rethink about how I handle this part of the business and how I approach things going forwards in a better way. I have been skilling up towards building bigger tech 2 ships, and I have been selling inventory to free up money to pivot as I need to. At time of writing I have over 25Bn in the corp wallets, which is a good starting point for any new direction I take my industry.

I have also partially reclaimed the money spent shipping in fuel block components to Auner by flying my finished T2 haulers myself to Rens and Hek. They sell for a big mark up there and it saves me hauling costs. This is time consuming though and not at all scalable, so I don't want to pivot too hard towards this as manually flying back and forth, even if it's only 3 jumps each way, is the sort of thing that drove me to quit before COVID!

I'm going to spend some time this month exploring a few things though and I'll hopefully have a plan and a direction to bring fully online after our family holiday in August.

June Update - Trading

So, a bit of an unusual on this one. Here are the numbers:

And the full breakdown:

My current net worth is 1.22Tn ISK. That's a change of -25Bn ISK, or a loss of 833mil/day.

That's a dramatic decrease, but I'm honestly thrilled!

So, what happened and why am I happy? Well, as outlined in my previous posts this month, I cashed out all of my Skill Extractors and HyperCores, as they reached my profit window and I could smell something coming in the NES. In the event I wasn't quite right in my guess, but I cashed out at the right time! I was able to end up with about 430Bn ISK to plough into PLEX, and then the day after FC dropped a 25% off Omega sale in the NES. I pulled the trigger for all 7 of my accounts, both trading and industrial, meaning most of my accounts are Omega'ed until the end of 2027.

Given I paid 4.5mil per PLEX and a years Omega cost 2700 per account I paid 12.15Bn ISK per account, for a total of 85.05BN ISK.

If you add that back in they I would have a net worth of 1.305Tn, or a monthly operating profit of 49Bn ISK.

A chunk of that is due to the increase in Skill Extractors and HyperCores before I sold them, and also I sold all my PLEX during the sale for a high of 5.1mil per PLEX (or about 12% profit before fees), which is why I'm sat on 445Bn ISK at the end of month. Once the sales all end I expected PLEX to drop in price again and I would pick more up.

This ended up being exactly what happened and at time of writing I'm sat on 92,000 PLEX bought for (at max) 4.6mil each.

My trade revenues "feel" good though, and a large portion of my profits also came from that. I'm making trade runs regularly and am pretty happy with that part of the business, even though it isn't really growing right now it's just feeding money into my gambling investment pool.

Cashing out the cash out

Well, no sooner had I poured everything I could into PLEX than FC woke up and decided to put a 25% discount on Omega time!

This means I can get a years Omega for each of my accounts for 2700 PLEX, which when bought at 4,500,000 ISK each (ish) means a years Omega for 12,150,000,000 ISK, or 1.012Bn ISK/month

That is an unbelievable bargain. My 4 main trade accounts are omega'd until next april, but my 3 industry accounts run out this year.

I'm instantly going to add game time to my industry accounts, but I'll give a little more thought to my traders. This sale might come up again at the end of the year and I could potentially make more ISK with the money in the mean time.

The rest of the PLEX though I will sell instantly. It currently sits at a sell price of 5.1mil which is about 350,000ISK profit per PLEX after taxes. When this sale is over and the price drops down again I can simply buy the PLEX again.

Indeed, as write this I have already sold 54Bn ISK worth for a profit. I have no idea how much money I'll end up with at the end of this month, but I'm really happy I got out of Skill Extractors while I had the chance! Shame I still have a bunch of HyperCores to sell, but I'll get over it.

Cashing Out

So, in the last FOMO sale I invested heavily into Skill Extractors and HyperCores, hoping to see a jump and then cash out before the next NES sale. I had in mind mid-late July to start cashing out but FC recently launched a big real money omega/PLEX sale, and handed players 10 PLEX in a pack for Federation Day.

Traditionally NES sales follow real life cash sales, and this one runs out on the 28th June. Also the SE and HyperCores have approached (in hypercores case hit) my "cash out point" of 480mil/280k respectively.

As such my spidey sense is tingling that an NES sale is incoming and I'm unlikely to get too much more profit out of simply holding my items. So I've spent this weekend/week selling these items and putting all the money into PLEX, which has been incredibly stable price wise recently:

I've managed to sell all my SEs for 459mil average, a ~26% profit before taxes/fees.

I'm currently selling HyperCores for ~282,000, though most have been sold for ~272,000. This represents about a 70%(!) marging before taxes. I still have about 300,000 of these I'm selling as well.

I've been buying PLEX at an average of 4.5mil each, and have accumulated...some.

Best case scenario, I'm right and another NES sale hit in July, giving me another opportunity to make 20-30% profit on all this in a few months. Worst case, nothing happens and I use this PLEX to get another years Omega if they run a omega discount around the new year (they usually do). But ultimately this is gambling so I could lose a lot if the price of PLEX tanks. This is not financial advice!

This feels like a strange way to make a lot of in game money through trading real world items rather than purely in game means, but that's unfortunately that's what's incentivised by these FOMO sales.

May Update - Trading

Another decent month this one, here's the summary:

And the full breakdown:

My current net worth is 1.257Tn ISK. That's an increase of 30Bn ISK, or 967mil ISK/day.

That's decent, I'm happy with that. Some of the increase is down to an increase in the value of Skill Extractors, though that is offset by a decrease in the price of hypercores. Both of these seem to have levelled off a bit now, and I'll probably start liquidating them both next month to avoid being caught out by another sale. My general plan with these now is to build up PLEX during off times/cash sales, then spend it during NES sales on items such as Skill Extractors and Hypercores. Then ride the price rise, sell the items and invest the money back in PLEX. Rinse and repeat. If I can make 20% profit per go at this it will really multiply my ISK, as there is no real ceiling on the amount I can pour into this the market cap is so massive.

My day to day regional trading has been fine, no real news there. I usually do a trade run once per week or when a character has about 10Bn in cash, so it doesn't take me much time to keep on top of it.

One point the dipped my worth this month is the writing off of my 5Bn ISK loan to ARDCO. Ardel Corvallon made a short video outlining that he was no longer enjoying the game and was leaving. It is always a shame when a content creator leaves the space, however this ultimately is a game and I wish him well in whatever he chooses to do going forwards. I had never seriously expected the money back anyway, I was just hoping it would help drive some in game content which it seems to have done.

Auner structures saved

A quick on this morning. I logged in to check the result of the armour timer for the Auner facilities having asset safetied my stuff last night, to be met with this:

I'm genuinely pretty surprised by this. The discord is still locked so no info there. Also nothing I can see on Reddit about this. I'm guessing after Ray's actions Snuff decided not to turn up?

On the one hand, this means I don't have to spend ages moving my setup if I don't want to, which is a nice option to have. Although this is the second time this has happened, so it likely will again.

The downside is I have another 4 and a half days before I can access my stuff as I put it into asset safety. Then I'll have to spend ages ferrying it back and forth from the NPC station, which is annoying.

I honestly don't know if I'm going to continue here or not. It's the path of least resistance but I'm not sure if it's the most stable long term. I guess no-one can answer that.

One thing I have learned so far doing industry is you need to be prepared to move on very little notice! Trading is much simpler in so many regards, this especially.

Moving my low sec industry set up...

I had been planning to finally get my May Update out (I've just been lazy on that, though it's actually been pretty positive), however I have something pressing to deal with this evening:

These structures were reinforced not too long ago, and it didn't come to anything. So why is this different?

Well...

There was some drama recently over a EVE streamer taking offence to someone posting a pride flag in his chat (this is relevant I promise). That turned into some Reddit drama, but wouldn't normally affect too much outside of him.

However, in this case, Fern Kitsuen, the public face and community manager of the EVEGuru project waded in and used the EVEGuru platform and YouTube channel to post a video. I did not see this video, but from snippets of transcripts I saw floating around it seemed like he went really off the deep end into some really foul far right talking points that I won't go into here. Like I say, I did not see it before it was taken down, I was mostly enjoying a weekend with my family away from all this.

All this while the developer of EVEGuru was away on holiday with his family, so largely unaware this was going on/unable to respond about it.

The EVE community in the main took this...poorly. The EVEGuru structures were reinforced almost instantly, with a firm promise they will be destroyed, and I expect a lot of piling on for the kill mails here.

Since returning to the fray, the developer, Ray Zolo, has handled all this I think very well. He put out an apology, distanced himself from Fern/the views expressed, got hold of the Youtube account details from Fern, took down the video, and kicked him from discord/is trying to remove him from the corp and everything else. A lot of damage control.

I do feel for Ray, he seems like he want to quietly develop the tool and play the game, and let Fern handle the public facing parts that he doesn't want to do. And Fern cause him all these issues. Also the discord server has descended into a level of toxicity I have not seen in quite some time, and had to be locked. The internet can be the worst sometimes.

Also Fenris Creations is going to have to do some PR/damage control as both the people involved in this are (at time of writing) part of their EVE partner program. There are going to be some tense meetings in the office tomorrow morning.

So why does this affect me? Well, I have been recently operating out of the EVEGuru facilities for T2 ship production. I haven't fully dived into it headlong but I'm in the middle of my 5th production run, and was getting into the swing of things. Now, suddenly, I have this evening to make a decision on whether to asset safety my stuff there or try and get it out. As the reinforce timers come out during the night this can't wait until morning.

I don't have any jobs running right now (I had some reactions going that finished this evening) but I do have almost 1 million m3 of materials in system. My characters there currently do not fly anything bigger than a Tayra, I'm training into DSTs there. I do have a DST in Akonoinen but that is 25 jumps away. So getting my stuff out is going to be a time consuming exercise.

On balance of time I think I'm going to have to asset safety to in system (should only cost me 0.5% of value to pull out) and then over the next however long do runs to extract the stuff to akonoinen and complete this run from there. From there I'll have a decision to make about whether to go to one of the existing freeports in Amamake or Huola, or join a null block and work from there.

Absolutely non of this is fun for anyone involved, and I hate that we still have incidents like this occasionally. Here's hoping this is the last we see of this sort of thing.

The return of FOMO

About a year ago now, CCP released a dev blog in which they declared "the end of FOMO", i.e. big sales that you make you feel like you have to take advantage of otherwise you're losing out on some serious opportunity cost. Whether that be the cost of PLEXing an account, or buying skill extractors or whatever.

In part they said this was to combat the behaviour of PLEX hoarding as an investment vehicle that gets unloaded during these massive NES sales. Pretty much since then the price of PLEX has steadily fallen, with small bumps here and there for minor sales. Until today.

We have never seen anything like this before. The scale of it is madness. And some of the deals are ridiculous. 3 for 1 hypercores??? I swore I would never again, but, well...

The main issue I have with this is that it totally shatters the idea that PLEX is not an investment vehicle. We now have clear, undeniable proof that t is and always will be. So any spare ISK you have, putting it in PLEX is a good idea.

It also throws so much ISK into the "game adjacent" economy. By that I mean items that are not available in game but affect your character in some way. MCTs, skill extractors and the like. So much money that could be used for in game activities is instead used on opportunities like this because they are more lucrative. And that's just sad really.

That being said, I will be taking part. I have around 180Bn ISK that I am not currently utilising, and I think the majority of it will be used in this sale in some way.

Now, what am I going to do?

I have 181Bn ISK sat in my wallet right now, and I want to invest the majority of it.

PLEX is currently sitting at 4,820,000 buy, 4,970,000 sell

That puts HyperCore break even at 160,666 ISK

and Skill Extractor 359,893 ISK

I can buy about 37,000 PLEX, which is what I put a buy order up for (the biggest of all time for me).

I'm going to buy about 500,000 Hypercores and then put the rest in Skill Extractors.

I'll never get parity on these, but will probably look to start offloading in about 6 months for whatever profit I can get.

It's wild, I don't really like it, but knowing about it I'd be stupid not to take part.

Also, once the sale ends I'm going to slowly start stocking up on PLEX. As something like this is clearly going to happen again.

How to set up a High sec T2 industry corp

This is something I've been wanting to put together for a while. A guide in setting up a corp in high sec to do manufacturing, aimed at multi character production. I use this setup to produce T2 rigs, deployables and similar in high sec with 9 characters.

Who is this for?

The idea behind this is a setup for people who want to do industry on multiple of their own characters and accounts, without help from a wider corp. A "one man corp" or solo industry setup, depending on how you want to define those terms.

Note, this only really works if you are producing small or medium rigs, deployable or modules, or some large depending on market conditions. Once you are into Large, Capital or Upwell structure sized items the rig bonuses from low or nullsec structures start to win out and you will struggle to compete in a high sec setup.

Corp setup

I'm assuming here that you are in full control and you do not want to worry about having other people in your corp, or if you do that you trust them implicitly (I would maybe do this setup with my sister but very few other people, and I'm not sure how much I could trust her to be honest).

What you will need is your own corporation. Give it a name, a ticker and a logo, and off you go.

Next, you want to make sure that all of your characters and in the corp, and that they have the Director role. This ensures that not only do they have full access to all wallets and corp hangars, but also that third party tools such as EVEGuru can see you corp assets as well. Your corp "Role Management" tab should look like this:

And that should be it from a corp setup point of view.

Where to base yourself

Now this is a personal decision obviously, but I have a few strong suggestions.

First, it should be an NPC station. A lot of people (including myself) fall into the trap of using a public Raitaru, or worse, putting one up themselves. This is on the logic that the rig speed bonus will allow them to turn over product faster and thus make more money. Solid logic in principle, but it falls down in reality for a couple of reasons.

1. Most public Raitarus are scams, and will be put low power and scooped hoping to scoop your blueprints and materials. You have to be on the ball to avoid this fate

2. All Raitarus in high-sec are war deccable. There are corps dedicated to hunting areas arounds trade hubs, particularly Jita, and declaring war on any corp they find to destroy Raitarus and get easy ganks.

For these reasons, I cannot state strongly enough, USE AN NPC STATION, DO NOT PUT DOWN A RAITARU.

So, what station do you want to use? If you open the Industry window there is a Facilities tab. You can set the range to "within skill range" and search for "station" to filter our player structures.

From here you want a station that has the following:

- Manufacturing

- Material efficiency research

- Time efficiency research

- Copying

- Invention

So it should look something like this:

You ideally want the system cost index to be fairly low, ideally 5% or lower for most activities, although your presence will likely push these values up.

You also want to select one that is close to your chosen trade hub. I use Jita and Akonoinen is 4 jumps away, so it works for me.

Setting up your office

Once you've chosen a location, you want to fly there, dock and rent an office. There is a tab on the right for doing this:

You will get billed monthly for this, by default from the master wallet. I pay about 35mil to use this station. Busier stations you pay more, quieter ones you pay less.

Once you have an office, you'll notice you have access to corporation hangars. I would take a bit of time to setup names for these as they'll be important for keeping organised later. There are as many ways of doing this as there are people doing it, but here is my setup, feel free to copy. You'll find this window in the "My Corporation" sub-menu in the corporation menu. Divisions button in the bottom right.

Now from a corp setup point of view you're all done. But we haven't got onto building anything yet.

How to build

Now, I'm not going to go into too much detail of how to decide what to build at any given time. You can use a tool like EVEGuru or EVE ISK Per Hour, or you can start how I did by trawling through contracts until you find something profitable with good demand. Either way, you buy blueprints, you buy materials, and you haul them to your corp office. But where do you put them? Here's where the corp hangars come in.

I put all my BPOs and T1 BPCs in my "Blueprints" hangar, imaginative I know. Input materials for manufacturing and invention go in "Materials". Creativity is my specialty.

The setup for different processed varies slightly. For ME and TE research I do the following:

I have my output location set to "Blueprints", this means when the job is finished it will be dropped back into that hangar so I always keep them in the same place. Next to the Total Job Cost there is a drop down, you should select it and select "Corporation wallet - Master wallet". What this means is that the cost of running the job will come from the corp wallet, not the characters personal one. This really just saves several clicks moving money around anytime you want to do anything. This will be the same for all job types.

For invention it looks like this:

I get the input materials from materials, the output goes to "T2 BPCs", guess what that hangar is full of? The reason to have a different hangar just for this is that hangars have a space limit. I'm not sure exactly what it is but I have hit it several times in terms of BPCs. It's somewhere north of 1200 items. BPCs do not stack so you can fill up a hangar quite fast.

For manufacturing it looks like this:

Materials come from materials, out goes in "Build output". I have a hangar just for outputs for the logistics side of things.

How to do a run

So, I have 1 primary hauler character, who runs to Jita to put up sell orders, buys new materials and hauls them back and sets things up for my other characters. This character has decent trade skills as well as being able to fly T2 Haulers. And by fly I mean can actually fly with a decent fit, not just sit in them. I'll get into this shortly.

What I do when I log in is on this character go to the Industry window, jobs tab, and click "deliver all jobs". This will deliver all jobs for all my characters, leading to a pile of finished products in the "build output" hangar. From there depending on size I will put it all in either my Blockade Runner or Deep Space Transport and fly to Jita and put all the items up for sale.

Then I decide what to build next. For me that's usually 10 runs of 10 Mobile Depots (I keep a stock of the input materials that I get from buy orders as these are so reliable that I have 1 character just building them 24/7) and then I check if my best sellers are decently profitable. For me that is Medium CCC II, Large EM Shield Reinforcer II and a few others. Keeping this list small means I can keep a stock of materials from buy orders, improving my margins, and allows me to carry a stock of BPCs at all times. It also reduces the mental load of choosing items. I usually restrict my "ad-hoc" production to about 1 character or 10 slots, which I pick using EVEGuru, and keep the rest to these items.

Once I have my materials I fly back to Akonoinen, dump them in the "materials" hangar and then it's a simple task of cycling through my characters and clicking "start" on dozens of jobs.

Important point: You should setup and use insta-dock and undock bookmarks at the trade hub you are using, and use them every time. You should also use your tank every time as you will be targetted at some point. One trick on docking in a trade hub, you can set you destination there, manually click warp to your insta-dock bookmark, then once you are in warp you can turn the auto-pilot on and you will dock on the tick you land.

Here's the fit I use for my DST:

Damage Control II 1

Power Diagnostic System II 2

Multispectrum Shield Hardener II 1

50MN Y-T8 Compact Microwarpdrive 1

Large F-S9 Regolith Compact Shield Extender 1

Medium Core Defense Field Extender II 2

Explosive Shield Hardener II 1

Bustard 1

EM Shield Hardener II 2

This gives me the following stats:

Overheated this will survive 2 tornadoes (and has). Always keep your wits about you when hauling yourself. Or pay someone else to do it. That works.

Wrap up

So, what do you think? What do you do differently? What have I missed? What have I got ludicrously wrong? Hope this will be useful to some at the very least, giving an insight to how I approach things.

Now, how to do this in low sec...

March Update - Industry

A real slump this one, which I'll get into below. My current values:

And the graph:

My current net worth is 58.9Bn ISK, that's a decrease of 1.8Bn ISK.

So, what's up here?

Firstly, as you can see from the graph and explained in my trading post, I didn't play much, especially second half of the month.

Secondly, and more importantly, prices have been falling across the board. The death of Horde has lead to a sustained peace across Null, and the alliances are making ISK and mining in a big way again. This combined with less destruction has a negative effect on the game economy. Basically everything I build has more competition, less demand and is worth less. So I am constantly having to drop prices to get revenue to keep slots busy. Essentially I am sprinting to stand still.

As a result of this, I've decided to have a bit of a reset. I've dropped a lot of prices of my sell orders, so my worth has dropped but is more representative of the true value of my wares. This gets me some cash to invest in the next phase of my project, which is moving some operations to lowsec.

I have moved 1 character there already, and he's been training in building Sabres, which he can now do. Also reactions. I've also started another 2 characters down this road, as I look to scale back on medium rigs in high sec and look towards bigger ticket items with a better margin. My priority over the next few days will be setting this up and getting my first batch of blueprints/materials down there so I can test the whole flow end to end and see how I feel about it.

Ultimately I think I'd like to get to a place where I'm building Black Ops battleships and Jump Frieghters, but for now a few Sabres will have to do. I'll update as I put this together with my learnings, but hoping this can be the shot in the arm my industry needs!

March Update - Trading

Another less than spectacular month this one. The summary:

And the full values:

My total net worth is 1.172Tn ISK. That's an increase of 11Bn, or 354Mil/day.

That's ever so slightly better than last month, but still terrible. So what's up with that?

Basically, I've hardly played. As you'll see from the industry portion of events I've only logged in maybe once in the last 2 weeks, and even before that I wasn't reliably doing trade runs. Part of that has been that revenue is low. We saw in the last MER that velocity of ISK is down and prices are falling, both of which are bad for my business.

I tend not to run through any character that has less than 8-10Bn in their wallet as the hauling contract tends not to be worth it for people, so less revenue means less updates, less updates mean less revenue. You see the problem.

that's in addition to me having stuff on in  real life, work being insanely busy, parents being down, I've had to sort out new blinds, had some building work done in our kitchen and various other bits. Yes I'm just as middle aged as it sounds!

I haven't actually set up seeding the PleniMart yet, but I'm going to make that my main trading priority this month. Hopefully opening up a new revenue stream can help with my motivation and cash flow. It should also help with the quarter of a trillion I have lying around in wallets doing nothing for me.

On that note, I have noticed that PLEX has been trending up, slowly but consistently for over a month now. I'm not sure why it has though, as there hasn't been any particular sales from CCP or anything. Maybe we're reaching a natural turning point where players view it as being cheap enough to PLEX their accounts and we're seeing increased demand? Not sure. One I'll be keeping an eye on though if it continues on this upward trend. I could easily throw 100Bn at it as a sort of hedge.

A new Industry Creator

I've recently started watching a new EVE industry content creator on youtube, EVE Compass

He has done an industry podcast with a couple of guests, the most recent one being Ardel Corvalon, CEO of ARDCO, who I've loaned 5Bn to support his industry buyback program.

The new podcast takes more of a conversational tone, going into why the guest got into what they're doing, challenges they've faced and how they overcame them, as well as things like burnout. A really good listen.

He's also started his own progression series, From Rocks to Riches, where he started with an alpha character and is making a go of industry. Only 1 episode so far but I'll be keeping track with interest.

It's nice to see some recent additions to the industry content creation game. I've said this before but I think we're in a really good place for this sort of content and there's a lot more than there used to be a few years ago, which is great. Gives me stuff to watch on the train into London!

Deflation and reduced economic activity

So, at the moment we're in a period of arguable deflation within EVE. Oz has done an analysis in greater detail that I could here: Feb MER analysis

But essentially, ISK velocity is down, mining is up, destruction is down, prices continue to fall.

As to why, I think we're really feeling the effects of Pandemic Horde's collapse. Both them and Goons were gearing up for a big war, which would have meant large amounts of destruction, requiring replacement ships/modules/deadspace kit and pushing up the ISK velocity.

Instead what we have is a place where the 3 big blocs, Goons, INIT and Frat, are all in full "stockpile" mode, where they are mining/building like crazy and not destroying much. This pushes prices down due to a flood of minerals and salvage, and demand down due to not needing to replace anything at scale.

What this means for me, personally, is it's becoming harder and harder to make money. My core regional trade business is suffering as the demand for deadspace/faction items is dropping so my overall income is down. In my industry side things are worse as I'm having to drop prices to keep pace with where things are and get some liquidity, which I'm using to keep slots busy for smaller margins. And since I'm essentially just adding to the flood of the market I either push my prices down to get liquidity, or I keep them where they are and just build up sell orders that are never going to go anywhere. It feels like I'm running just to stand still.

These phases happen in EVE, and if it continues too much CCP will step in or eventually a significant conflict will kick off, but right now it's hitting my motivation as it just feels like I'm not achieving much right now.

I'm still waiting for skills to train to get some alts into producing T2 hulls so I can switch to higher margin items as well, which is again frustrating but at least gives me something to look towards.
